Partake and Proclaim

1 Corinthians 11:26 also says, ‘You proclaim the Lord’s death.’ Now my question is to whom do we proclaim the Lord’s death? We don’t proclaim the Lord’s death to the world; we proclaim the Lord’s resurrection to the world. We declare Lord’s death to ourselves, to the parts of our body and say we are dead to sin because when a person is dead then that person can never sin. We all are dead to sin and alive to God in Christ.

Partake Worthily! 1 Corinthians 11:27 “Therefore whoever eats this bread or drinks the cup of the Lord in an unworthy manner will be guilty of sinning against the body and blood of the Lord.”1 Corinthians 11:28 “A man ought to examine himself before he eats of the bread and drinks of the cup.”

When we partake of the table according to 1 Corinthians 11:27,28 then two words are of utmost importance which are ‘unworthy’ and ‘examine.’ The word ‘unworthy’ in Greek is ‘anaxious’ which also means ‘unsuitable’ or ‘not corresponding action’ and word ‘examine’ in Greek is ‘dokimazo’ which means ‘interpret oneself.’ What does it mean? It simply means that when we are partaking in the table then we should not take the bread and wine as an unsuitable or simple ordinary thing but rather we must examine in our hearts and firmly believe that the piece of bread is the body of Christ broken for us and the cup that we drink is really the Blood of Jesus shed for us and only when we believe in our hearts that we are partaking in the Body of Christ which is broken for us and drinking His blood then and only then we will have a sense of awe and the highest level of reverence for it.

1 Corinthians 11:29 goes on to say if anyone partakes in the table without recognizing the body of the Lord brings judgement upon himself. The word ‘recognizing’ in Greek is ‘diakrino’ also means ‘to make a distinction.’ In other words, to make a distinction means when you partake of the cup and the bread, you must realise that it is not a simple piece of bread and wine, it is really the body of Christ. When you have judged that fear of awe will come upon you.

The Israelites ate their lamb i.e., Passover with fear and trembling but some believers partake in the table with a casual attitude. 1 Corinthians 11:30 says, “that is why many among you are weak and sick, and a number of you have fallen asleep.” The word ‘weak’ in Greek is ‘asthenes’ means ‘without strength’, ‘weak’, ‘sick’, ‘powerless’, ‘without ability’.So, when you partake in the table without recognizing or thinking as if it is just a bread and wine then it brings weakness and sickness, makes you powerless, lose the ability and your strength is gone.

But just imagine what will happen when we partake of the table, recognizing and considering the bread and wine as exactly the Body and Blood of Christ then weakness is gone, sickness disappears, strength is activated and power and ability become part of us. In other words, we walk in glory without sickness!
